According to recent reports the Government is poised to slash the cost of electricity for homeowners, in an attempt to encourage a switch away from fossil fuel boilers to low carbon heat pumps.
The RHI Remains Open - But There's Only 12 Months To Go!
The Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive (“RHI”) scheme remains open to applications for new air source heat pump and ground source heat pump installations. However, the scheme is set to end on 31st March 2022 for new applicants - that’s less than 12 months away! The Green Homes Grant Is Closed - And Why That's A Good Thing
As of 5pm Wednesday 31st March, the Green Homes Grant Voucher Scheme is closed to new applications, thus bringing to an end the Government’s troubled energy efficiency scheme. On face value this might seem like a blow, however for heat pumps the Green Homes Grant never represented additional funding. The existing funding scheme for heat pumps - the Renewable Heat Incentive - has still got another year to run, and continues to encourage uptake of heat pumps throughout the UK.

On 14th December 2020, the Government published the ‘Energy White Paper: Powering our Net Zero Future’ which has been produced to set out the path to achieve the Climate Change Act 2008 requirement of of an 80% cut in carbon emissions by 2050.

Change to Domestic RHI - Relaxation of 12 Month Rule
Due to the current coronavirus pandemic the Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BIES) have published a notice regarding the Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI). The Document outlines the Government’s intention to relax the current ‘12 month rule’ where you have to apply for the RHI within 12 months of the commissioning date of your heat pump.
Green Homes Grant Update - Apply Now!
As of today 30th September 2020 the Green Homes Grant Scheme is now LIVE! You can get £5,000 - or in some instances £10,000 if you’re on certain benefits - off the cost of installing an energy efficient air source heat pump or ground source heat pump. Alto Energy is MCS accredited and Trustmark approved, meaning that we are an approved installer under the scheme.
