What qualifications do you need to install a heat pump?

To install a heat pump under our MCS umbrella scheme, you’ll need to complete our free heat pump training course. You must also hold a valid unvented hot water certificate and have public liability insurance in place.

Do you have to be MCS registered to install heat pumps?

No, you don’t have to be MCS registered to install heat pumps. However, without MCS certification, your customers won’t be able to access government grants like the Boiler Upgrade Scheme. By joining our MCS umbrella scheme, installers can offer compliant installations and unlock funding opportunities for their customers.

How long does it take to become a heat pump installer?

Our heat pump training course takes just half a day to complete. Once finished, installers can begin fitting heat pumps almost straight away, provided they meet the necessary requirements such as holding an unvented certificate and public liability insurance.

Is an MCS certificate a legal requirement?

No, an MCS certificate is not a legal requirement to install a heat pump. However, without it, homeowners won’t be able to access government funding schemes such as the Boiler Upgrade Scheme. Working under our MCS umbrella scheme allows installers to offer certified installations without having to register individually.
