What is Start at Home Scheme?
The Alto Assured Start at Home scheme is part of Nesta’s wider Start at Home initiative, designed to support the low-carbon transition by putting heat pumps into the homes of the professionals who fit them. The aim is simple – give heating engineers the opportunity to experience what it’s like to live with a heat pump in their own home.
By going through the full installation process yourself, you’ll not only gain practical, hands-on experience, but also build the kind of confidence that makes it easier to advise your customers. From understanding the day-to-day performance to navigating the installation details, it’s a chance to see everything from the homeowner’s point of view.
The scheme is fully supported by Alto Energy and includes training, design, equipment supply, commissioning, and aftercare – all provided at no cost to you.

Each job comes with a bespoke kit, tailored to your home, and includes:
An air source heat pump up to 12kW from either Mitsubishi, Samsung, Worcester Bosch or Midea
A hot water cylinder up to 300L
Heat pump controller
Plumbing installation kit with volumisers and external insulation
Electrical installation kit, including a sub-board and MCBs specific to the heat pump
Radiators and other standard plumbing and heating components aren’t included, but you can pick these up as normal through your usual merchant.
AM I eligible to join the start at home scheme?
If you’re an installer and you live in England, Scotland or Wales, the most likely answer is yes! That said, you’ll need to meet a few additional criteria:
You must be replacing a fossil fuel heating system or direct electric heating in your own home
You must hold a valid Unvented Hot Water certificate
You must have current public liability insurance
You must either complete our free heat pump installation training or be an Alto Assured partner installer
If you tick all the boxes and you're ready to get started, you can either sign up for our free heat pump training or fill out an enquiry form – one of our Account Managers will then be in touch to gather a few more details about your property.
MCS Umbrella Scheme
If you want to install MCS accredited heat pumps and help your customers access funding like the Boiler Upgrade Scheme, our Alto Assured MCS Umbrella Scheme is the perfect solution. We’ll handle all the MCS paperwork and compliance for you, and our expert team will also design, supply, and commission the system, so you can focus entirely on the installation.
