Churches across the country have realised the importance of renewable energy rather than fossil fuels.
Due to new initiatives regarding renewables, churches have seen the light in cheaper and healthier forms of energy. These have been pursued by the Church of England group Parish Buying as well as Christian Aid, Tearfund and the Church of England’s Environment Programme running a campaign called the Big Church Switch Campaign.
It has been noted that since 2016, the number of churches using renewables has risen 2000 in just two years, showing a clear understanding of the benefits that renewables can offer.
The Church of England’s lead bishop on the environment, Nicholas Holtam, Bishop of Salisbury understands the significant importance, stating; “Climate change is one of the great moral challenges of our time and so it’s fantastic to see churches doing their bit to ensure they reduce their impact on the environment.”
It has also been recorded that around £5m has been redirected from fossil fuels companies due to the installation of renewable energy sources, which can only be good for both the churches and the general population too.
