Housing Developments with Heat Pumps - Step 1: Pricing Up

In this blog series we look at just how easy it is for property developers to incorporate heat pumps into their latest housing developments. We will follow a live project for 5 plots in Yorkshire with one of our regular developer customers, and describe each stage of the journey, highlighting how Alto Energy can bring value and convenience to your project.

Step 1: Pricing Up

The first step with any project is pricing up, and this is the first hurdle for housing developers who haven’t had experience working with heat pumps before. The good news is that Alto Energy make this really simple.

In order to draw up a quotation, all Alto Energy require are the building plans for the project. Our highly skilled estimating team can then accurately work the correct size heat pump for each property on the development. On receipt of the building plans, and depending on the size of the development in question , we can turn around a quotation for you within 48 hours.

BUILDING PLANS

If you’ve got planning permission for a project, you will almost certainly have building plans. These drawing packs are made up of floor plans, sections and elevations. These drawings provide us with everything we need to accurately size up the heat pumps.

MCS STANDARDS

Alto Energy is an MCS accredited installer, and every heat pump project Alto Energy quotes for is designed in accordance with the latest MCS standards. MCS stands for the Microgeneration Certification Scheme, and represents the industry rules for designing and commissioning heat pump systems. There are a number of benefits to developers by choosing to use an MCS accredited installer:

  • Heat pumps are designed in accordance with the MCS standards, which have been developed by the industry to ensure that heat pumps operate in the most efficient way possible.

  • By commissioning each heat pump, Alto Energy is guaranteeing that the heat pump will operate the way it was designed to do so, giving you our professional indemnity

  • Heat pumps installed by MCS accredited installers are rated with an uplifted performance in the Building Regulations calculations

Alto Energy’s unique business model has been designed to work alongside house builders and self builders. We work alongside your on-site trades people, and offer free training and telephone technical support for them to carry out the physical installation. This work will be carried out under subcontract to us, which in combination with our own employed engineers carrying out the physical commissioning, ensures that we offer comprehensive guarantees and warranties on the heat pump system once it has been signed off.

Once we have provided our quotation, the next step is what we refer to as Technical Sign Off. As part of the technical sign off process, we verify the heat pump design as well as providing a complete underfloor heating and radiator schedule, to ensure the heating distribution system in the property is adequately sized. You can read more about this in the next blog in this series.
